FAQ
WHat materials can be engraved?
Common materials include wood, metal, rock, ceramic, acrylic, leather, glass, some fabrics, some plastics, paper and cardboard.
Currently I operate two lasers - a blue light diode (455 nm) and an infra-red fibre (1024 nm) - each of which has specific applications and limitations.
Contact me for specific enquiries. If you can provide a sample blank, I'm happy to run a test array for free to help determine material suitability.
Please note a sample array test is effectively destructive and test blank survival is not guaranteed.
How BIG CAN YOU ENGRAVE?
A maximum working area of 220 mm x 500 mm per laser run is available, with a maximum height of 240 mm.
Various methods are available to engrave on larger items by sectioning and joining larger designs (where suitable).
Contact me to discuss how to make your idea possible.
What objects or shapes can you engrave on?
Flat surfaces no problems.
Round/cylindrical shapes such as bottles, cans, glasses, tumblers etc. can be processed with a rotary to provide full 360° wraps with no warping.
Curved surfaces can also be mapped as long as the change of angle is limited (no sharp edges, points or tight radii) again to provide crisp imagery without warping.
what materials Can be cut?
Paper, cardboard and other such thin sheet can be easily cut for intricate and precise details.
Timber up to around 5 mm can be cut depending on its density.
Acrylics and laser suitable plastics (non-toxic) can be cut up to around 5 mm.
Metal cutting is limited to around <0.5 mm on soft metals such as brass, tin, copper, silver, gold etc. However, metal can be deeply engraved for projects such as coins, medallions, embossing/debossing dies, stamps etc.
CAN I request custom designs?
Yes of course! Submit your own ready to go design in Scalable Vector Graphics (.svg) format or we can work together to develop a design and perform material testing as required. Design consultation fees may apply.
how long does a typical job take?
Laser run times vary accordingly by project size, design complexity, material type or shape - ranging from a few seconds to many hours. Most jobs are in the range of 1 - 10 minutes.
Turnaround times will also vary based on the job setup complexity and current order bookings. Most orders can be completed within 1-3 business days. Get in touch to discuss your specific project requirements.
IS bulk ordering available?
Yes, volume discounts apply for bulk orders and design fees only apply to the first time development of new graphics.
With the use of AI and image recognition technology coupled with a feed conveyor I can easily process many small duplicate items for bulk orders.
